All of your tasks are in To Do, perhaps shared with others, but what about actually getting things done? What needs to be done now? Use MS To Do – My Day to set your priorities.
What is My Day?
Apart from being the first screen you see, it’s your opportunity to think about what you need to actually do/achieve today.
What tasks will you complete today?
How do I use it?
So glad you asked.
Basically, you’re going to add tasks that you plan (or want to) work on today and (hopefully) complete.
This way you’ve got a shorter list to focus on, rather than your huge list that can feel overwhelming.
Adding tasks to My Day
It’s today, and you want to create (or curate) the tasks that you want to focus on.
You’ve got three options to choose from, and you can mix and match as you want to:
Suggestions
Being a Microsoft program, it’s a little bit clever.
Select the tasks in the automatic suggestions on the right-hand side.
In fact, you don’t really need to ask, you get suggestions automatically 😁.
Based on the suggestions, click on the +, to add them to your day.
Note: If the suggestions don’t appear automatically, look for Suggestions and/or the lightbulb 💡 in the top right corner. (Depending on the available screen space on your device – mobile and tablet = 💡, web browser and desktop app = text and image.)
Add an existing task
You’ve already added tasks into MS To Do, when it’s time to get down to work add them to today’s list.
Select them (phone or tablet) or right-click (desktop or browser) and choose ‘Add to My Day’.
New task
The final option is to simply create the task in My Day.
That will automatically add it to the list.
Type into the ‘Add a task’ field, as you do for any other list.
Remember that all of the other options mentioned in my previous posts (due date, steps etc) are here as well.
Note: If you don’t complete it today, it will be added to your regular list (Tasks).
What happens at the end of the day?
Great question!
Since this list is all about today, it will reset ready for the morning and a new day.
Any task not completed will show up in your suggestions, but MS To Do doesn’t add anything into My Day for you.
Which is nice – it doesn’t keep showing you what you haven’t completed yet 😁.
