We all know that if you’re sharing files, edits and changes are going to be made that not everyone agrees with. How do you track the suggested changes? Simple – use the Google Track Changes option!
What is Track Changes?
Let’s start at the beginning, just in case…
Simply put – any changes, added or removed text, changes to formatting – are recorded.
Then review the changes suggested and accept or remove them.
Oh – and you can see who made the changes…
Switch it on
First thing to do (after you’ve written the main content) is switch it on.
Track changes is actually an editing mode – rather than a specific option.
Find the Editing Mode option on the right of the toolbar.
From the drop-down list, click on the option that you want to use:
Editing = normal option, create the document content.
Suggesting = highlight the changes made (i.e. track changes).
Viewing = read-only and print the file.
Making changes
Now you’re tracking the changes, it’s time to make some ‘suggestions’.
Add text in, or select some text and type in what you think it should be.
Changes appear in the document, and on the right-hand side as a note.
Switch off the options
Once finished with the changes – change the editing mode to either ‘editing’ or ‘viewing’.
This will allow you to continue editing the document or just view the ‘final’ version.
Note: You can always change the editing mode as you need to.
Deal with the tracked changes
Remember to work through the suggestions – accepting or rejecting the changes.
