If you spend a lot of time in Microsoft Teams, you’ll know the struggle — endless scrolling through chats and channels trying to find the one you need. The Microsoft Teams GoTo command is here to fix that. It’s a simple keyboard shortcut that takes you straight where you need to go, no scrolling required.
New to Teams, Not to Microsoft
GoTo isn’t a brand new idea. It’s actually been part of Microsoft Office for a long time — you might have used it in Excel or Word without even realising it. The good news is that Microsoft have now brought it into Teams, and they’ve kept the same familiar keyboard shortcut too.
How to Use the GoTo Command
This is wonderfully simple. Just press Ctrl+G on your keyboard and the GoTo command pops up straight away.

You’ll see a box asking you to type the name of a chat or channel. As you start typing, Teams will suggest options — and if the one you want appears in the list, just click on it. Done. You’re there.
What if You Can’t Remember the Shortcut?
No worries — there’s a second way to get there. Click into the search bar at the top of Teams, but don’t start typing. Instead, press the forward slash (/) key on your keyboard. A list of commands will appear, and GoTo will be right at the top.

Click on GoTo and you’re in exactly the same place as if you’d used the keyboard shortcut.
A Handy Navigation Trick
Here’s something I find really useful. I use GoTo not just to find a specific chat or channel, but also to quickly navigate back to the top of my list — where my favourites live.
If you pin your most-used chats and channels as favourites (and I’d really recommend you do), GoTo becomes a brilliant way to jump back to them in seconds, no matter how far down your list you’ve wandered.

Don’t Know the Chat Name?
GoTo works best when you know the name of the chat or channel you’re heading to. If you’re not sure, the filter option in Teams is worth a look — you can search by the name of a person in the chat instead.

Give It a Try
The Teams GoTo command is one of those features that sounds small but makes a real difference once it’s part of your routine. Press Ctrl+G, type a name, and you’re there. Simple as that.
