At the end of the day, how useful your notes are depends on what you add in (Garbage in, Garbage out – GIGO). What you choose to store/save in terms of OneNote content will make or break your digital notes.
What’s ‘mind blowing’ is exactly what OneNote can save:
Text
OK, let’s start with the completely obvious one.
It can store text (you’re seriously impressed now – right 🤣)
Let’s include emoticons and emoji’s as part of text – because that’s often how we use them.
Images
They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, it makes sense that our digital notebook can store images.
Perhaps I need to clarify what I mean by ‘images’…
Photos
Use the built-in camera on your device to take and add pics straight into OneNote.
Photos from other locations can be added into OneNote through a variety of options.
Pictures
Copy or add pictures to the page, as simply as the photos.
Shapes and Drawing
Well, OneNote is a standard Microsoft program in their office suite, so like the others (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) you can insert shapes.
Use the drawing options, with a mouse, or with the various options of a touchscreen device, to create your own diagrams, explanations. Whatever you need!
Files
Add information stored in files (and a range of file types) as links to the original file. Alternatively the whole contents can be added to any page.

Tables
Need your information to be organised – how about adding a table?
Fully built-in to create one in OneNote, or paste it from another program.
Talking of other programs…
Excel Spreadsheets
Yep, you can add not just as a file or it’s contents, but as a fully working spreadsheet within a OneNote page.
Equations as well
If your notes need to include equations (simple or complex) try using one of the built-in equations (yes, really e.g. area of a circle, pythagoream theorem).
Unless you need to enter your own equation, in which case you better use the editor.
Audio and Video
With so much information being shared through audio (podcasts, audio recordings) it’s useful be to able to links to their location, or you can add audio directly to the page.
Guess what?
Video, is the same. Here you can add videos, links or save it directly to the relevant page.
